Kids Invade for Pirate Rendezvous June 22
A band of fun-seeking little buccaneers are expected to invade the Twin Villages on Saturday, June 22, when the Pirate Rendezvous returns with a continued emphasis on children, and fundraising for child oriented non-profit efforts.
The event will also continue to be hosted by Schooner Landing Restaurant and Marina on Main Street in Damariscotta, opening at 9 a.m. and continuing until approximately 1 p.m.
Little buccaneers fire off a round of beanbags while playing the game “Broadside” at the 2018 Pirate Rendezvous. The 2019 Pirate Rendezvous is scheduled for Saturday, June 22.
The Pirate Rendezvous will include children’s activities and games, including the old favorite “Broadside” bean bag toss and a new bouncy house fashioned as a fortress. A popcorn machine will also be there to keep the pirates well nourished. At 11 a.m. the buccaneer crew will form up in marching order to parade around the in-town area as part of the Pirate Kids Costume Contest. Main Street businesses will have the opportunity to provide small gifts to the invaders in hopes that they will remain peaceable during their raid.
Upon the return to Schooner Landing, a team of judges will be waiting to make awards for First, Second and Third Place in the Pirate Kids Costume Contest. The judges will also have the opportunity to create additional categories as they see fit.
The Pirate Rendezvous will be produced by, and benefit, Blessings in a Backpack, a 501(c)3 program that sends food home to eligible children from Jefferson Village School for the weekend during the 38 weeks of the school year. Sally Lobkowicz and Greg Latimer, who developed the event beginning in 2008, have volunteered to assist in production and operations, as well as donating the use of games, activities and decorations.
“At its core, this event has always been about children and fundraising for efforts that support children,” Latimer said. “Both Sally and I are glad to see that tradition continued by Blessings in a Backpack.”
